About our Cashmere...

Cashmere wool is the softest, most luxurious and the warmest wool in the world. It comes from the hair of underbelly of mountain goat Capra Hircus, locally called "Chyangra". Mountain goat is a special breed of goat indigenous to high altitudes (12000 ft. to 14000 ft.) of the Himalayan region where temperature falls down to -40 degree centigrade. The thermal conductivity of this type of wool is the best in the world as it is responsible for the mountain goats survival at -40 degrees centigrade. Cashmere fibre is less than 14-19 microns in thickness making it very soft whereas human hair is approximately 75 microns thick. Pashmina is used to make luxurious products like shawls, sweaters, scarves, wraps, and stoles etc. These products are hand spun, woven and embroidered by traditional weavers and artisans who's knowledge has been passed down through the generations as Cashmere products have been manufactured in Nepal for thousands of years.

Features

Why is Cashmere better than wool?

Different from wool, cashmere comes from hairs, and this is the main reason for many of its unique properties...

Warmth – Its insulation capacity is 3 times higher than wool (up to 8 times for the very best cashmere), making it perfect for maintaining your body temperature. The result is a yarn that keeps you warm but not hot.

Softness – The diameter of cashmere fibers is very small, creating a very fine texture, the softest of all yarns.

No itchiness – For the same reason, the density of fibers is much higher than wool, and therefore the texture is not scratchy. This gives a great feeling when wearing cashmere directly on the skin or when touching a jumper.

Lightness – Given its insulating qualities, cashmere jumpers can be lighter than ones made of wool and still keep perfect body temperature.

Shape resilience - Quality cashmere does not shrink when washed correctly and will retain shape better than wool over the years.

Durability – The best cashmere jumpers can last 10 years when the right care is given to the garment. It is not uncommon to hear of people wearing cashmere jumpers from their grandparents. As usual, luxury materials also have some small downsides that real ‘connoisseurs’ need to be aware of to better maintain the product:

Pilling – This happens when short fibers twist around themselves in areas of the jumper where there is more friction, creating small bubbles. This phenomenon is inevitable due to the presence of shorter fibers and it afflicts expensive cashmere as well. However, later on, it should stop after the first few washes, and it should happen much less than with cheaper alternatives (where fibers are much shorter). Don’t worry, normal pilling is easy to remove with cashmere comb, shaving machines or even simply by hand.

Care – Cashmere fibers are shorter and thinner than most other yarns, therefore you will need to follow the washing instruction to avoid damaging the garment.

Washing instructions

One of the wonderful features of Cashmere products is we can keep them lasting for years and years if we take proper care of them. It will even get softer and more luxurious with each wash!

Generally, dry cleaning is the preferred method of washing for Cashmere products. However, you can hand wash occasionally if you are careful and follow a few guidelines that are listed below. We do suggest washing it before first use to make sure the natural vegetable dyes do not bleed.

WASHING

To wash by hand, soak it in soapy Luke- warm water for a little while, and then wash very gently rubbing soiled areas. Then rinse it two or three times thoroughly until there's no more soap left. Do not wring the Pashmina product as the fabric is sensitive to pressure and rough handling.

DRYING

To Dry, lay it flat on a drying rack, but make sure it's evenly spreaded across the rack, rather than simply hung, because hanging while wet stretches the fabric.; Another option if you don't have a rack is just to get a dry towel and let dry on the towel.

STORAGE

For safe keeping, make sure you store your cashmere in a way that doesn't bunch it up. Fold it neatly and either place it on a hanger or keep it on a shelf.

Good Ear Warmer

Lovely and soft and big enough when pulled down to cover my ears when it is very cold. I have a few mohair beanies, but this one is much more comfortable.
